Ingredients

  • 1 bottle (750 ml) fruity red wine, like merlot
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2 slices fresh, peeled ginger
  • 1 pear, thinly sliced with seeds removed

Directions

Step 1

Combine all ingredients in a large stainless steel, ceramic, or glass saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, about 8 minutes. Remove from heat.

Step 2

Remove whole spices, keeping the pear slices, and serve.
